Fighting in Afar Displaces Tens of Thousands as Tigray TV Facility Hit by Drone Strike
Around 150,000 people have reportedly been displaced by recent fighting in Ethiopia’s Afar region, while a facility belonging to Tigray TV was also reported to have been struck by a drone.
The humanitarian impact of renewed fighting across Ethiopia’s Afar and Tigray regions is continuing to grow.
Humanitarian sources cited by Addis Standard estimated that at least 150,000 people had been forced to flee their homes as a result of the latest clashes in Afar.
At the same time, a facility operated by Tigray TV was reported to have been hit in a drone strike. Different sides have traded accusations over the incident, while several details surrounding the attack remain independently unverified.
Communication disruptions across parts of northern Ethiopia are also making it more difficult to independently assess developments on the ground.
Internet and telephone outages in Tigray have further complicated humanitarian operations and contact with affected civilians.
