MSF: More Than 700 War-Wounded Patients Reach Hospitals in Northern Ethiopia
Médecins Sans Frontières said more than 700 people wounded in fighting have reached medical facilities in Tigray following the latest escalation of hostilities in northern Ethiopia.
Médecins Sans Frontières, also known as Doctors Without Borders, reported a sharp increase in war-wounded patients arriving at hospitals following renewed fighting in and around Tigray since September 22.
According to MSF, the number of war-wounded patients received at hospitals in Korem and Alamata increased from around 180 to more than 420 during a 48-hour period between September 22 and 25.
More than 300 additional wounded people had also arrived at Suhul Hospital in Shire, northwestern Tigray, by September 25.
The deteriorating security situation forced MSF to suspend activities at Alamata Hospital and halt some of its field operations.
The organisation said it was increasing preparations to respond to humanitarian needs among civilians displaced by fighting across Tigray, Amhara and Afar.
