Tanzania Plans Paid Internship Scheme for 10,000 Young People Each Year
Tanzanian Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi has called for part of the revenues generated by public institutions to finance paid professional internships for 10,000 young people annually.
Tanzania is preparing to expand paid internship opportunities as the government seeks to address youth unemployment and the lack of work experience among new graduates.
Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi, speaking at a forum of public institution executives in Arusha, proposed using part of the revenue generated from government investments to finance structured internship programmes.
Ndejembi instructed relevant ministries to prepare an implementation plan within two weeks to place the first 10,000 young people from different professional fields.
Government figures indicate that around one million young people enter Tanzania’s labour market each year, while available employment opportunities remain significantly below that level.
The initiative is intended to provide practical work experience and improve access to future employment in both the public and private sectors.
