Uganda Delays Opening of Kabalega International Airport Until January 2027
Uganda has postponed the official opening of Kabalega International Airport until January 2027 as final works continue at the facility built to support the country’s oil and gas industry.
Uganda has once again revised the commissioning timetable for Kabalega International Airport in the western Hoima region.
Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama said the airport is now expected to be officially commissioned in January 2027.
Final work on the runway lighting system remains underway, with the contractor expected to complete and hand over the system before the opening.
The airport had originally been expected to be completed in December 2023, but the schedule was repeatedly delayed due to financing issues, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and other implementation challenges.
Kabalega International Airport was designed primarily to support the logistical needs of oil and gas projects in Uganda’s Albertine region.
