Türkiye and Somalia Seek Stronger Parliamentary Role in Bilateral Agreements
Turkish and Somali parliamentary delegations meeting in Arusha discussed how their legislatures can help advance bilateral agreements, facilitate approval processes and strengthen the institutional foundations of cooperation between the two countries.

Türkiye and Somalia are seeking to give their parliaments a greater role in supporting the expanding relationship between the two countries.
During bilateral talks on the sidelines of the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Arusha, the delegations focused on how legislators can contribute to advancing agreements already reached between the two governments.
The 153rd IPU Assembly is taking place from October 5 to 9 and brings together hundreds of parliamentarians for high-level international parliamentary diplomacy.
Supporting Approval and Implementation of Agreements
One of the main issues raised during the meeting was the importance of facilitating parliamentary and legislative procedures related to agreements between Türkiye and Somalia.
The delegations discussed how closer contacts between lawmakers could help support approval processes and contribute to the implementation of bilateral commitments.
Greater interaction between parliamentary committees and individual MPs was also identified as a way of giving the relationship a more permanent institutional framework.
Coordination Beyond Bilateral Relations
The discussions extended to cooperation within international parliamentary organizations.
Both sides considered closer coordination between their delegations on matters of common interest, including mutual support within international parliamentary forums.
The Arusha talks therefore add a legislative dimension to a bilateral relationship that already spans diplomacy, economic cooperation, development and other areas.
